A Mother’s Confession

Today is my first official day of spring break.  I sent off  Big Kidlet with my husband this morning (really, they sent themselves off while me and Mini Kidlet cuddled and nursed in the warm cozy king bed <3) and then I took MK to his daycare . . .

I have no class or work today.  The dishes can wait.  Laundry has been rotated.  Bills are paid.  Appropriate people called about perpetual life messiness.  I have a day BY MYSELF!  This is unheard of and this is where I have to confess.

I am a devoted wife, mother, friend, sibling, daughter, etc.  I rarely drink (breast feeding and pregnancy have put me on an almost 3 year ban :0/) I don’t do drugs, smoke, abandon my kids to party or even eat out a lot.  I very few vices.  But one of them is ALONE time.  I need it like a junkie needs a fix.

I think that often times we women are trying hard to keep all the plates spinning that we forget to take care of ourselves.

Today I went to the library and browsed the beautiful, aged books.  I stroked the spines and smelled the musty pages.  I smiled at the toddler storytime that I wasn’t taking part in and sighed in relief.

Today I took my Nikon to the park and took pictures of wonderful textures, grains, plants and fowl.  You know what I didn’t do?  I didn’t take a single picture of a drooly baby fist or a toddler’s grin.  I do that every other day and believe me, it fills my heart (Yes, I will post them, it’s my duty as a mother) but today I took pictures of simple beauties that I never have the time to contemplate.

Today, now, I sit in a coffee shop.  I am not covered in mushed Cheerios.  My BK isn’t begging me to leave.  There is nothing on the table but my computer, my ipod, my camera, my phone, book and my coffee.  I don’t carry diaper bag, just my “I ❤ Mr. Darcy” bag.  (Shout out to Karolyn for bringing it back from England for me, props, girl!)

Anyway, enough rambling, here are some pictures of my day and I SWEAR next time I will post some of the kidlets.  They are left raw, with the few exceptions that were converted to b&w and sepia.  They were shot with a Nikon DSLR, a 55-200 mm lens and an amauteur eye.  Enjoy!

As always, these images are my copyright.  Any use of them without my full credit will result in massive global warming Day After Tomorrow style and the birth of millions of babies with extra limbs.

About pageturnershollow

My life is in constant motion and sometimes I just need to take a moment to breathe. I have learned to laugh at the hardest parts or my life and move on with optimism. Most days around here end with laughter.
